The metro directly connects Valencia Airport with the city centre, Joaquín Sorolla high-speed train station (AVE, Avlo, OUIGO and iryo), Estación del Norte (Cercanías commuter trains, medium and long-distance services) and Valencia’s seafront. This includes Valencia’s beaches, the commercial port and the ferry terminal area, from where ferries operate to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca), as well as connections to North Africa and Mediterranean cruises.

Metrovalencia lines and destinations from the airport
From Valencia Airport, two metro lines operate that connect it with different parts of the city and its metropolitan area:
Line 3 (Rafelbunyol ↔ Aeroport [Airport]): connects the airport with the city centre and the northern part of the metropolitan area.
Line 5 (Marítim-Serrería ↔ Aeroport [Airport]): connects the airport with the city centre and the seafront area, including beaches and the port.
Both lines follow the same route into central Valencia and make it easy to reach the stations most commonly used by travellers: Xàtiva and Colón. In addition, from Àngel Guimerà station you can connect with the rest of the Metrovalencia network, and from Xàtiva there is a direct connection (via an underground pedestrian passage) to Line 10, which provides access to the City of Arts and Sciences, the Oceanogràfic, the City of Justice and the area around the Roig Arena.

Service notice
Due to renewal works, Metrovalencia Line 5 will suspend service between Aragó and Marítim from 25 June to 30 August 2026. Amistat, Ayora and Marítim stations will have no train service; Aragó will be the start and end point for lines 5 and 7, while Marítim will continue to serve tram lines 6 and 8. Check metro, tram and EMT alternatives before travelling.

Metro fares and tickets (to/from the airport) 2026
The metro journey between Valencia Airport and the city falls within Zone AB+, so the cost is slightly higher than for an urban journey (Zone A). The price is the same in both directions: from the airport to the city or the other way round.
Usual options:
Single ticket Aeroport (Zone AB+): 4,80 €
SUMA 10 AB+ card: €12.50 (10 journeys in zones A (city), B and airport; average price €1.25 per journey. The same card can be used by more than one person)
SUMA 10 A card: €9.00 (10 journeys; city only, does not include the airport. The same card can be used by more than one person)
Tourist options:
- SUMA T1 card: From €4.50 (unlimited travel for one person for 24, 48 or 72 hours from first validation within fare zones AB)
- SUMA T1+ card: From €9.00 (unlimited travel for one person for 24, 48 or 72 hours from first validation within fare zones AB+, including the airport)
Valencia Tourist Card: 24, 48 or 72-hour tourist card with public transport included and discounts on museums, attractions and other services. It includes the metro journey between the airport and the city while the card remains valid.
Where to buy: Ticket machines, ticket offices and the Metrovalencia office in Arrivals (floor 0, next to the metro station).
Cost of the card support (reloadable card): SUMA tickets are loaded onto a reusable support card. The cheapest option is usually the anonymous cardboard support (€1.10), although the most commonly used one is the plastic version (€2.20).
SUMA cards allow you to travel with the same card throughout the Valencia Metropolitan Area using Metrovalencia, EMT (red urban buses), RENFE Cercanías and MetroBus (yellow intercity buses, including the airport service), as well as urban transport in some municipalities (Paterna and Sagunt).

Metrovalencia offers discounts and concessions on certain tickets and passes (families, young people, seniors, etc.).

From the plane → to the Metro station (Aeroport)
Step-by-step guide (just landed):
Si arribes de fora de l’espai europeu Schengen, passa primer el control de passaports.
Collect your luggage from the baggage belts, or go straight out if you are travelling with hand luggage only.
Head towards the Arrivals exit. In the corridor you will see the yellow transport signs with icons for metro, taxi, bus, ride-hailing (Uber/Cabify/Bolt) and car hire.

Go down to floor -1 by escalator or lift. The station is below the Arrivals area, in the regional terminal area, and is clearly signposted.
Buy your ticket from the ticket machines or at the Metrovalencia office, located next to the station in Arrivals.
Validate your ticket at the gates and go to the platform for Line 3 or 5.

Step-by-step guide (before your flight):
Get on an L3 or L5 train towards ‘Aeroport’ from the station nearest to you (Xàtiva, Colón, Marítim-Serrería…).
Get off at Aeroport station (the last stop on L3 or L5).
Go out through the validation gates.
Follow the signs and go up two floors to level 1 (Eixides / Departures / Salidas). You can use the escalators or the lift.
If you need to check in luggage, go to your airline’s desk.
If you are travelling with hand luggage only, go straight to security control.
Check the screens for the boarding gate assigned to your flight.

If your flight leaves very early or you arrive very late, it is worth checking the metro frequency and timetable in advance.
💡 Useful tips
Always validate your ticket or card before travelling and follow the station signs. On tram lines, where there are no ticket gates to access the platform, validation is done before boarding. Inspectors may ask to see your ticket or card at any time. Travelling without a ticket or with an invalid pass may lead to a penalty or fare regularisation.
Timetables: the metro runs from early morning until the evening, with extended service on some Fridays, Saturdays and the evenings before public holidays. Always check the exact timetable for your line before travelling.
Frequency: usually every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 20 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, although this may vary depending on the line and time slot.
Luggage: you may travel with suitcases and hand luggage; place them so they do not block doors or aisles.
Ticket and card payment: the machines accept cash, contactless payment and most bank cards (debit and credit). They do not currently accept American Express, so it is a good idea to carry another card or some cash.
Languages on ticket machines: the machines have an interface in Valencian, Spanish and English.
Airport option: on many ticket machines you will find a specific tab for tickets and cards to or from the airport, making it easier to choose the correct ticket for zone AB+.
Reloadable SUMA card: do not throw it away after the first use; you can top it up and keep using it on your next journeys. The cost of the physical card is €1.10 (cardboard) or €2.20 (plastic/PVC).
Children under 10 travel free if they are accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket or pass, with a maximum of two children per valid ticket.
Accessibility: the stations have lifts and accessible entrances, although it is advisable to check for any specific incidents before travelling.
Safety: keep an eye on your belongings, especially during peak hours.
Key connections:
Xàtiva/Colón → historic centre and Estación del Norte.
Àngel Guimerà → major interchange point.
Marítim-Serrería → seafront area and cruises.
Alacant (L10) → takes you closer to the City of Arts and Sciences, the Oceanogràfic, the City of Justice and the Roig Arena. There is an underground connection from Xàtiva station, without going outside.
Recommended arrival time: as a general guide, get to the airport 2 hours before European flights and 3 hours before international ones, especially during holidays, public holidays and peak times.

How long does the metro take to reach the city centre of Valencia?
The journey between Aeroport station and central Valencia usually takes around 20–25 minutes, depending on the line, your destination station and the time of day.
If you continue to other areas, such as the seafront or the northern part of the metropolitan area, the total journey time can be closer to 30–40 minutes.
These stations are next to Estación del Norte and just a short walk from many hotels and the historic centre.
What are the metro operating hours to and from the airport?
The metro between the airport and Valencia runs every day, normally from early morning until late at night. As a general guide, the first trains usually run between 05:30 and 07:00, and the last trains between 22:30 and 23:40, depending on the line, the direction of travel and the type of day.
On Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, there may be extended service until around 03:00, but exact times vary depending on the line and the date. How often does the metro run?
The airport metro usually runs every 15–20 minutes for much of the day. During peak hours, this can drop to around 6–12 minutes, while at night, on weekends or on public holidays, waiting times may be longer.
If you want to avoid unnecessary waiting, the best option is to check the exact time of the next train in the official journey planner before you leave.
Which metro lines go to the airport and which stations are the most recommended?
Valencia Airport is served by Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5. Both connect with the city centre and allow you to continue to other parts of the network.
The most useful stations for most travellers are Xàtiva and Colón in the centre, Àngel Guimerà as a key interchange with other lines, and Alameda, Aragó or Marítim-Serrería if you are heading towards the seafront, the Marina or the area around Mestalla.
How much does the metro to the airport cost and which ticket is best for me?
The journey between the airport and Valencia falls within the AB+ fare area, so you need a ticket valid for that fare-zone combination. The Aeroport single ticket costs €4.80, and a very common option is the SUMA 10 AB+ multi-journey card, which allows 10 trips at a better price and includes the airport. The ticket price does not include the physical card.
If you are planning to use public transport more during your stay, the València Tourist Card may also be worth considering, as it includes the journey between the airport and the city within the covered zones while it remains valid. Temporary discounts may affect the final price of some SUMA tickets, so it is worth checking the latest fare before buying or topping up.
Is the SUMA 10 A valid for travelling to the airport?
No. SUMA 10 A is only valid for the urban Zone A and does not include the airport, which belongs to the AB+ fare area.
To travel by metro between the airport and the city, you need a ticket that is valid for AB+, such as a single Aeroport ticket or the SUMA 10 AB+.
Where can I buy the ticket or SUMA card?
You can buy your ticket or top up a SUMA card at ticket machines, ticket offices and other authorised Metrovalencia points of sale.
At the airport, in addition to the ticket machines, you will also find the Metrovalencia customer service office on floor 0, next to the metro station (Arrivals area). If you have just arrived and want to continue by metro, the easiest option is usually to buy the card there and load the ticket that suits you best before going through the barriers.
Can I pay for the metro with a bank card or mobile phone?
Yes. At the ticket machines, you can usually pay with a bank card and, depending on the machine, also with contactless methods.
In most cases, you do not go straight through the barriers using your bank card. Instead, you normally need to buy the SUMA card or the relevant ticket at the machine first.
Can I take large suitcases or special luggage on the metro?
Yes, you can travel on the airport metro with suitcases, backpacks and hand luggage.
The important thing is to place them so they do not block doors, aisles or walking areas, and to take extra care during the busiest times of day. If you are carrying particularly bulky items, it is best to follow the usual rules and any instructions from staff.
Do children travel free on the airport metro?

At present, SUMA multi-journey tickets keep temporary fare reductions until 31 December 2026 in València and its metropolitan area, but these conditions may change, so it is always advisable to check the official information before buying or topping up.
Is the metro accessible for people with reduced mobility or pushchairs?
Yes. Metrovalencia states that its stations have adapted routes with ramps and lifts, making it easier to use the metro with a wheelchair, reduced mobility or a pushchair.
Even so, before travelling it is worth checking whether there are any temporary issues affecting access points or lifts.
How do I get from the metro to the check-in area or security control?
From the airport station, you simply need to follow the indoor signs towards Salidas / Departures.
The route involves going up two floors to floor 1, where you will find the check-in area and the entrance to security control. It usually takes around 5–10 minutes, depending on how busy the airport is and whether you use the lift or the escalators.
Is it safe to use the Valencia metro at night to go to or return from the airport?
Yes, in general Valencia’s metro is a safe and widely used means of transport, including for journeys to and from the airport.
